Former National Auditor of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief George Moghalu, has officially joined the Anambra governorship race under the Labour Party (LP). He picked up the party’s nomination and expression of interest forms, declaring his intention to challenge Governor Chukwuma Soludo in the November 2025 election.
Despite the ongoing leadership crisis within the Labour Party, Moghalu expressed confidence that the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and other key stakeholders would rally behind him to secure victory.
During the submission of his nomination forms at the LP national headquarters in Abuja, Moghalu, who previously served as Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), assured that he is fully prepared to clinch the party’s ticket in April and lead it to success in the November 8 election.
Speaking at the event, Moghalu emphasized his belief in the party’s internal democracy and fairness.
“I have confidence that the party leadership will provide a platform for fair contestation”, he said. “Our ambition is not a war. At the end of the day, one person will emerge as the Labour Party candidate in Anambra State, and I strongly believe, with faith in God, that I will be that person”.
Describing himself as a dedicated party loyalist, Moghalu noted that his decision to join the Labour Party came after extensive consultations with his constituents and other political stakeholders.
“A lot of people who know me were surprised that I switched political platforms because I have always remained with one party since the beginning of this democratic dispensation. But after much consideration, I decided to join the Labour Party,” he stated.
LP National Chairman, Julius Abure, welcomed Moghalu into the party, commending him for his confidence in the platform. He assured all aspirants of a level playing field in the upcoming governorship primary in Awka, Anambra State.
