The Nigerian Bar Association will spotlight one of the profession’s most persistent challenges during its 2026 Annual General Conference: how lawyers price their services, bill clients and actually get paid.

Organisers note that delivering quality legal services is no longer sufficient. Sustainable practice now requires lawyers to understand pricing, communicate value clearly, structure fee arrangements and recover fees efficiently while upholding ethical standards.
The session will address practical questions that cut across litigation, corporate practice, consultancy and in-house roles: how to determine appropriate fees, why clients often resist payment, which pricing models suit different types of work, how to prevent disputes before they arise, and what billing systems improve recovery rates. Participants will also examine the difference between cost and value, scope management and common billing mistakes.
Central to the programme is a Five-Step Billing Framework. It guides lawyers to define the scope of work, assess value and complexity, select the right pricing model, communicate fees confidently, and document engagements while collecting fees systematically.
