The Nigeria Bar Association Section on Legal Practice (NBA-SLP) has posted robust financial results and sharp membership gains, with paid members exceeding 2,100 and sponsorship for its 2026 Annual Conference surpassing ₦400 million.
Treasurer Henry Osayande Bazuaye, Esq., presented the figures at the Section’s Annual General Meeting in Port Harcourt, held during the 2026 NBA Annual General Conference. The report covered September 2025 to 14 August 2026 and detailed the Section’s finances, investments, spending and membership trends.
Membership rose from roughly 120 paid members in 2023 to more than 2,116 in the 2025/2026 year. Officials attributed the increase to stronger engagement, membership drives, outreach and digital improvements. The larger base is expected to support expanded professional development, training, publications and other services for lawyers nationwide.
The 2026 conference in Lagos marked a financial high point. Spending reached about ₦260 million, higher than earlier events in Jos, Kano and Abuja.
Sponsorship more than covered the outlay, exceeding ₦400 million, the strongest figure in the Section’s history. The funds underpinned broader programmes, logistics, delegate services and social events, and reflected rising support from corporate partners and stakeholders.
On the balance sheet, the Section held more than ₦219.5 million at Zenith Bank and over ₦36.6 million in its UBA naira account. An investment with Cowry Asset Management that began as a ₦75 million fixed deposit had grown to roughly ₦81.1 million. Holdings were also placed with ARM Investment Managers and other institutions, pointing to diversified and cautious management. The audited accounts were presented to members at the AGM, underscoring a continued focus on transparency and accountability.
Section Chairman Mrs. Folashade Alli, SAN, received particular recognition for steering stakeholder engagement, partnerships and initiatives that contributed to the gains. The results were described as a collective achievement involving the executive committee, secretariat, members, sponsors and partners.
Looking ahead, the Section faces the task of converting its stronger finances and larger membership into sustained benefits, better services, professional opportunities and contributions to the wider legal profession, while maintaining the momentum of growth and confidence.
