Team Nigeria ended its Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games campaign in seventh place overall, collecting 24 medals, 10 gold, seven silver and seven bronze to finish as Africa’s highest-ranked nation ahead of South Africa and Kenya.
Australia led the medals table with 171 medals (70 gold), followed by England (110) and Canada. India, Scotland and New Zealand completed the top six.
Athletics delivered several historic moments for Nigeria. Samuel Ogazi won the men’s 400m in 44.25 seconds to become the first Nigerian to claim Commonwealth gold in the event. Ezekiel Nathaniel also made history as the first Nigerian man to take the 400m hurdles title.
In the field, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi secured Nigeria’s first Commonwealth gold in the men’s shot put, while Ruth Usoro took silver in the women’s long jump. Udodi Onwuzurike earned silver in the men’s 200m, improving on his sixth-place finish from Birmingham 2022. Ella Onojuvwevwo ended a 32-year wait for a Nigerian medal in the women’s 400m with bronze, and world record holder Tobi Amusan added bronze in the women’s 100m hurdles.
The mixed 4x400m team claimed bronze in the event’s Commonwealth debut, and the men’s 4x100m squad also won bronze after Canada’s disqualification on appeal.
Weightlifters, para-athletes and judokas further boosted the tally, underlining Nigeria’s strength across multiple disciplines.
The Games, held over 11 days, featured athletes from more than 74 nations and territories competing in 10 sports for 1,168 medals across 215 events. Organisers reported more than 630,000 spectators, over 4,000 volunteers contributing more than 156,000 hours, and nearly half a billion social media views.
