The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has rolled out a cutting-edge digital platform for issuing Tinted Glass Permits (TGP) nationwide, a move aimed at enhancing national security and restoring public confidence.
Announced by Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, the initiative, accessible via possap.gov.ng, addresses long-standing complaints about motorist harassment over tinted windows while tackling their misuse in crimes like kidnapping, armed robbery, and “one-chance” scams.
The reactivated system introduces a secure, user-friendly process for regularizing factory-fitted tinted glass, increasingly common in modern vehicles. By integrating National Identification Number (NIN), Tax Identification Number (TIN), biometric capture, and background checks, the platform ensures transparency and accountability.
QR-coded digital permits will be processed within 72 hours, enabling lawful users—such as those with medical needs or security personnel—to comply without hassle.
“Tinted vehicles have been exploited for criminal activities, undermining police visibility and public safety,” said ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer. “This system will help identify legitimate users, boost investigative capabilities, and strengthen security.”
Motorists have a 30-day grace period starting May 1, 2025, to register, with enforcement to follow. The NPF warns that officers engaging in extortion or unprofessional conduct will face strict disciplinary action.
IGP Egbetokun urged citizens to embrace the initiative, emphasizing its role in fostering safer roads and a more secure Nigeria through technology-driven, citizen-focused policing.
