A 25-year-old Nigerian man living in London has been sentenced to two years and three months in prison after hacking a woman’s social media accounts, using her photographs to create fake profiles that advertised her as a sex worker, selling the images online and then blackmailing her.
Bosun Osagie, of Hartslock Drive, Bexley, south-east London, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Monday, 12 October 2026. He had earlier pleaded guilty to computer hacking (unauthorised access to computer material) and blackmail. The court also imposed a 10-year restraining order preventing him from contacting the victim.
The case began in February 2023 when the woman, who lives in the Wirral area of Merseyside, reported to police that her Snapchat and X (formerly Twitter) accounts had been compromised. Investigators found that her images had been used to set up fake social media profiles. Those profiles were used to solicit customers for sexual services. The same photographs were also being sold online. The victim was later subjected to blackmail demands for money.
Merseyside Police conducted extensive enquiries that led to Osagie’s arrest and subsequent charges. He admitted the offences at an earlier hearing before the sentencing took place this week.
Detective Sergeant Darren Devonport of Merseyside Police said Osagie’s actions had caused the victim deep distress. “Not only did he intrude into privacy, he then tried to blackmail her into giving him money. The victim did the right thing and reported it to us,” he stated.
The officer added that the force remains committed to tackling the possession and distribution of indecent images and expressed the hope that Osagie would reflect on the impact of his crimes while serving his sentence.
Court records confirm the hearing took place before Judge David Swinnerton. The offences related to events in Wirral, Merseyside, in February 2023. Under current UK release arrangements, Osagie is expected to become eligible for release on licence after serving one-third of the custodial term.
The victim’s identity has not been made public. Police have urged anyone with information about similar offences to contact them via the force website, social media channels, or by calling 101. Anonymous reports can also be made to Crimestoppers.
