The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast a three-day spell of cloudiness and thunderstorms across various parts of the country, beginning Wednesday, June 18, through Friday, June 20.
In its weather outlook released on Tuesday, NiMet said the northern region would experience patches of cloud cover on Wednesday morning, with areas like southern Kaduna expecting cloudy skies and light rainfall. Later in the day, thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rain are expected in Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Taraba, Adamawa, Bauchi, and Kaduna.
For the North Central region, NiMet predicts generally cloudy skies with early morning light rain showers over Nasarawa and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Thunderstorms and moderate rainfall are expected later in the day across Plateau, the FCT, Niger, and Kogi States.
In the South, early morning light to moderate rainfall is expected in Lagos, Ogun, Akwa Ibom, and southern Cross River. Thunderstorms with moderate to heavy rain will likely hit Imo, Ebonyi, Enugu, as well as central and northern Cross River by afternoon or evening.
On Thursday, the forecast shows continued patches of cloud cover over the North, except for Kebbi, Taraba, and Adamawa, where light morning rains are expected. The North Central will see cloudy skies with intermittent sunshine throughout the day.
In the South, cloudy conditions are expected in the morning hours, with thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rains projected later in the day across Imo, Enugu, Abia, Edo, Ondo, Osun, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Lagos.
By Friday, NiMet forecasts cloudy skies with patches of sunshine over the North and North Central zones throughout the day. Southern states will also experience cloudy mornings, followed by thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rainfall across Imo, Ebonyi, Anambra, Enugu, Abia, Ogun, Ekiti, Edo, Ondo, Osun, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Lagos.
NiMet urged airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports for safe and effective flight planning. It also advised residents to stay updated with daily forecasts by visiting www.nimet.gov.ng.
