An operative of the Department of State Services (DSS) on Thursday told the Federal High Court in Abuja that members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) were caught with human heads and allegedly eating human flesh during a raid.
The DSS operative, identified as PW5-EEE, made the disclosure during cross-examination in the ongoing terrorism trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu. According to the witness, the gruesome discovery occurred at an ESN camp, where the members reportedly claimed the act was for spiritual fortification.
“We saw about seven ESN members with human heads. Some of them were eating human flesh, which they said was for spiritual purposes,” the operative told the court.
He also testified that activities linked to ESN have allegedly led to the deaths of over 170 security personnel across the South-East region.
Meanwhile, the prosecution has closed its case in the trial. Justice James Omotosho directed the defence to file its written address on a no-case submission, while granting the Federal Government 14 days to respond with its own address.
The matter was adjourned until July 18 for further proceedings.
