Operatives of the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad (CG SIS) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have uncovered seven illegal oil dumps and arrested seven suspects in the Jahi/Katampe area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
This development follows the directive of the NSCDC Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mandating a sustained clampdown on oil theft and illegal petroleum operations nationwide.
According to a statement by the Corps’ National Public Relations Officer, CSC Afolabi Babawale, the operation was based on credible intelligence which prompted a swift and strategic raid by the CG SIS.
Speaking on the operation, the CG SIS Commander, AS Dandaura, revealed that the suspects were apprehended during a coordinated sting operation that led to the discovery of five illegal oil dumps out of the seven raided sites.
The suspects include Akande Olusola (48), Anas Usman (33), Jonathan Onekutu (45), Uchenna Kelechi (44), Chukwuma Solomon (37), Monday Israel (34), and an individual identified simply as Bello (33).
Several exhibits were recovered from the crime scenes, including a white truck (Reg. No. GYA-777XA) with three compartments fully loaded with 45,000 litres of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), alongside an unverifiable waybill. Other items seized include:
- Multiple short peddler trucks (some with no visible registration numbers)
- A white DAF CF truck (Reg. No. KSF-161XQ)
- MAN Diesel short truck (Reg. No. KWL-241XA)
- Volkswagen bus (Reg. No. RBC-140XF)
- Toyota Matrix (Reg. No. KWL-644ZY)
- Two Toyota Corolla cars
- Over 20 surface and locally constructed metallic tanks containing suspected AGO
- Various pumping machines, hoses, and calibrated rubber tanks
- Two Volkswagen Faragon buses fitted with built-in tanks
- A Mikano generator, metal funnels, plastic buckets, and headless peddler tankers
Commandant Dandaura emphasized that the NSCDC will pursue legal action against the suspects through a court of competent jurisdiction. He assured that due process will be followed in the investigation and prosecution to ensure justice and serve as a deterrent to others involved in similar criminal activities.
