The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has strongly rejected a wave of fake employment letters circulating in its name, some of them created with artificial intelligence, and cautioned Nigerians not to fall for the scam.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by its spokesperson, Eniola Akinkuotu, the commission said the fraudulent documents bore the names of people unknown to the regulator. Criminals are using the letters to trick job seekers into paying money under the pretence of securing employment with NUPRC.
The commission confirmed it has reported the matter to law enforcement agencies and is awaiting the outcome of investigations. “Members of the public are advised to be circumspect so they don’t fall victim,” the statement said.
NUPRC stressed that it is not conducting any recruitment exercise at present. It added that any future recruitment will be carried out strictly in line with applicable laws and government regulations.
The warning comes as fraudulent job offers and fake appointment letters continue to target desperate job seekers across the country.
