The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, is in mourning following the sudden passing of Professor Jimoh Olanipekun, who fell ill during a departmental meeting on Wednesday.
According to a statement by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, Olanipekun developed breathing difficulties during the meeting and was immediately taken to the University Health and Medical Centre. After an initial assessment, he was referred to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC), where he was pronounced dead.
OAU’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Bamire, led a condolence visit to Olanipekun’s family, expressing shock over the loss. He described the late professor as a brilliant scholar and urged the family to find solace in his impactful life, offering prayers for strength during this difficult time.
Professor Olanipekun was a distinguished academic in the Department of Philosophy, Faculty of Arts, renowned for his contributions to scholarship and intellectual excellence.
