Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has directed the immediate deployment of additional security personnel to communities in Ovia South West and Etsako East Local Government Areas (LGAs) following recent attacks that claimed the lives of several farmers.
Condemning the killings, Okpebholo assured affected communities of the government’s full support and commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice.
Reports indicate that suspected Ijaw militants attacked seven communities in Ovia South West LGA, killing 22 farmers and destroying properties worth millions of naira. Additionally, two farmers were killed in Okpekpe, Etsako East LGA, on Monday, February 24, 2025.
Speaking on the crisis, Okpebholo vowed that his administration would not tolerate violence or lawlessness in the state.
“We will work tirelessly to ensure that those responsible for these heinous acts are brought to justice,” the governor stated. “The safety and security of all Edo State residents remain our top priority, and we will do everything within our power to prevent such incidents from happening again.”
He emphasized that the government would collaborate with security agencies, traditional leaders, and community members to restore peace in the affected areas.
Okpebholo also urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as efforts to address the situation intensify. He assured them that the government is taking all necessary measures to restore normalcy and protect lives and property.
