Alhaji Abbas Sunusi, the esteemed Galadima of Kano and the oldest kingmaker in the ancient city, has passed away at the age of 91.
Sunusi, a highly respected figure in the Kano Emirate Council, served as Wamban Kano and a senior councilor under the late Emir Muhammadu Sanusi I and Alhaji Ado Bayero.
His sons, Abdullahi Abbas, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, and Alhaji Kabiru Abbas, confirmed his death on Tuesday night after a prolonged illness.
“Yes, Baba has died after a long illness,” the family stated.
Sunusi’s passing marks the end of an era in Kano’s traditional leadership, as he played a crucial role in the emirate’s affairs for decades.
He is survived by his wives and 35 children, including Abdullahi Abbas.
His funeral prayer is scheduled to take place at the Gidan Rumfa Emir’s Palace today at 9 a.m.
