Police in Osun State have arrested a man for allegedly killing his mother and burying her body in a shallow grave on their family farm following a dispute over land.
The Osun State Police Command said Taye Kasali was arrested on September 7 after investigators linked him to the disappearance of his mother, Mrs Kudirat Kasali. A report that both were missing had been made to officers in Bode-Osi, Ola-Oluwa Local Government Area, on September 1.
According to a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the suspect later confessed to the killing. He led detectives to the farm, where the body was recovered from a shallow grave together with the machete used to cut the woman’s throat before she was buried.
Police said the dispute arose after Mrs Kasali repeatedly called her son a mad person and threatened to lease out the farmland. The suspect claimed the land was the family’s main source of income.
Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Zungura has ordered a thorough investigation with a view to charging the suspect to court. He assured residents that justice would be served and urged the public to report cases of missing persons and other crimes promptly.
