Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the ongoing political crisis in Osun State by restraining Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, and his supporters.
In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, Frank accused Oyetola, a former governor of Osun, of instigating unrest to destabilize Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration. He urged the President to take immediate action to restore peace as clashes between the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have reportedly led to multiple casualties.
Violence broke out on Monday as APC and PDP members clashed over the control of local government secretariats, following a Court of Appeal ruling that both parties interpreted differently.
Governor Adeleke insisted that sacked local government chairmen could not return to office due to security concerns, while Oyetola maintained that the judgment reinstated them, calling for its enforcement.
Frank alleged that Oyetola’s goal is to create chaos in the state to justify a declaration of a state of emergency.
“Intelligence at our disposal reveals that Oyetola’s strategy is to make Osun ungovernable for Governor Adeleke so that the Federal Government can step in and declare a state of emergency,” he said.
He also referenced comments made by APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, who suggested on live television that a state of emergency might be necessary due to escalating violence.
“APC Wants to Disrupt Adeleke’s Re-election”
Frank claimed that the APC’s ultimate goal is to prevent Governor Adeleke from securing a second term through crisis and political maneuvering.
“They know that if elections were held today, Governor Adeleke would still win. So, they are using violence to create a pretext for a state of emergency,” he stated.
He urged President Tinubu to break his silence on the crisis, warning that if the situation worsens, both the President and Oyetola would be held responsible.
“Oyetola is using federal influence to fuel anarchy in Osun State. This must stop immediately,” Frank declared.
Frank, who also serves as the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) Ambassador to East Africa and the Middle East, urged Nigerians to speak out against what he described as an attempt by the APC to undermine democracy.
He encouraged Osun residents to stand firm in support of Governor Adeleke and resist any attempt to impose a state of emergency in the state.
“Despite intimidation, the people of Osun must stand strong with Governor Adeleke. They must not allow federal might to be used against their choice,” he said.
Frank also criticized Oyetola’s tenure as governor, arguing that Adeleke has achieved more in two years than his predecessor did in four.
“Oyetola had four years with no tangible achievements, yet Adeleke, in just two years, has made a significant impact. The people of Osun must not allow APC’s desperation to overturn their mandate.”
He concluded by warning against any attempt to forcefully take over the state under the guise of security concerns, saying such actions would not be accepted by the people.
