An Owerri Magistrate Court has ordered the remand of 33-year-old computer programmer Victor Ude Chikadibia, known as Mastertruth, in correctional custody on charges of cyberstalking, threats and defamation against a sitting judicial officer. The decision followed his arraignment on a five-count charge linked to social media posts that accused an Imo State magistrate of protecting a senior pastor amid claims of an alleged affair with Ude’s wife.
The court, presided over by His Worship Mrs Ariche Ihuaku Adaoha, ruled on Thursday after the Imo State Police Command brought the case. Prosecutors charged Ude under Section 24(2)(a) and (c) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2015, as amended in 2024. The counts allege he sent life-threatening voice messages to Magistrate Akunna Chidinma Opara between 2020 and February 2026 and published defamatory statements and images on 17 July and 13 August 2026 that exposed her to public ridicule.
According to the charge sheet marked OW/1418/C/2026 and signed by Elder T. Veke Esq. of the police Directorate of Legal Services, the posts described the magistrate as a “charge and bail Magistrate who rose to the top through fornication,” labelled her an “illegal wife” of the pastor, accused her of abusing her office to intimidate citizens, and claimed she left her husband and four children for the cleric.
Ude’s lawyer, Barrister Chinedu Agu, who arrived after short notice of the hearing, opposed continued detention and highlighted statutory rules on remand. The magistrate declined bail, stating that offences under the Cybercrimes Act fall exclusively under the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court. Citing Sections 225 and 226 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Imo State 2020, the court ordered Ude’s remand pending transfer of the case.
Police arrested Ude in Abuja on 20 August 2026. He had been held for about two weeks before the hurried arraignment, which followed media coverage and interventions by human rights groups.
The posts arose from a dispute involving Apostle Love Judah of Truth Assembly International Churches in Owerri. Family accounts state that Ude worked under the pastor for nine years until his wife, Miracle, allegedly disclosed a sexual relationship with Judah. Miracle’s father confronted the pastor, who reportedly discussed the matter with Magistrate Akunna, herself a pastor in the same ministry. Ude then posted photographs of the magistrate in judicial attire with critical captions and issued voice notes warning her to “wait for the worst.”
One widely circulated post stated: “How can a pastor sleep with his member’s wives and his pastor’s wives finish and he wants to go free just like that..NEVER!!! Apostle Love Judah! Your Magistrate one of your illegal wives ‘his worship AKUNNA CHIDINMA OPARA’ will never save you this time…” It also urged people to remove their wives, mothers or daughters from the church, describing the pastor’s teaching and tears on the altar as manipulative.
Ude’s father, Mr Caleb Ude, criticised the police for detaining his son for 14 days and then presenting him before a magistrate court that lacked jurisdiction over federal cybercrime charges, rather than the Federal High Court.
Ude remains in prison custody while the case is transferred to the appropriate Federal High Court division for further proceedings.
