Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has accused his predecessors—including former governors George Akume and Samuel Ortom—of driving the state into deep poverty and underdevelopment through years of misrule.
Speaking during his maiden media chat with journalists, Governor Alia said his administration inherited a state grappling with financial crisis, widespread corruption, and dilapidated infrastructure.
According to him, the actions of past governments—marked by mismanagement and poor governance—left a legacy of ghost workers, failed institutions, and stunted progress.
“Previous administrations deliberately left Benue in a state of perpetual poverty. This is deeply troubling, as their decisions have had long-lasting and damaging effects on the state’s development,” Alia stated.
He vowed to address the rot in the civil service, eliminate ghost workers, and redirect public funds toward meaningful development initiatives.
“Benue has suffered for too long, and it’s time to make things right,” the governor declared. “We are committed to restoring the state’s financial stability and setting it on a path of genuine progress and prosperity.”
