The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed the purported suspension of the party’s Board of Trustees(BOT) Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, declaring it null and void.
In a statement issued by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the NWC stated that the suspension violates the party’s constitution and holds no legal standing.
The party emphasized that no State Working Committee (SWC) has the authority to suspend a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) without consulting the NWC, as clearly stipulated in Section 57(7) of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017).
The section states:
“Notwithstanding any other provision relating to discipline, no Executive Committee at any level, except the National Executive Committee, shall entertain any question of discipline as may relate or concern a member of the National Executive Committee, Deputy Governors or members of the National Assembly”.
“By this provision, the Abia State Chapter of the PDP lacks the power to discipline Senator Wabara, as he is a NEC member and Chairman of the BoT”.
The PDP condemned the suspension as reckless, unconstitutional, and a violation of party rules. It warned those responsible to reconsider their actions, adding that the NWC will take appropriate disciplinary measures to maintain party stability.
The NWC urged all party members, stakeholders, and supporters in Abia State, the South East, and across Nigeria to disregard the suspension.
The party reaffirmed Senator Wabara’s leadership and commitment to the PDP, insisting that no illegal action would be allowed to disrupt the party’s structure and constitution.
