Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has dismissed claims that the party has collapsed in Lagos State.
Speaking to journalists on Monday after a stakeholders’ meeting in Lagos, George likened the PDP’s presence in Lagos and across Nigeria to the deep-rooted strength of an Iroko or Lebanon oak tree, declaring that the party remains firmly grounded despite recent defections.
His remarks come in response to the defection of key PDP figures in Lagos, including the party’s 2023 governorship candidate, Dr. Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran (Jandor), and the party’s spokesperson, Alhaji Hakeem Amode, who recently joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The defectors claimed the PDP’s structure in Lagos had collapsed into the APC.
George, however, rejected the assertion, describing it as “absolutely nonsensical.” He emphasized that all political organizations face tough times but stressed that the PDP’s foundation remains solid.
“I want to assure our leaders that the Iroko political party is very much alive,” he stated.
Reflecting on Jandor’s candidacy in the 2023 elections, George expressed regret over the endorsement he received from some PDP elders, calling it a mistake in hindsight.
Nonetheless, he insisted, “It is absolutely nonsensical to say the PDP structure in Lagos State has collapsed into APC.”
