Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Isuamawu Ward 4, Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State, are facing possible suspension following allegations of irregular appointments within the party structure.
A seven-member disciplinary committee, led by Goddy Nnorom, revealed that a man was controversially nominated as the Women Leader of the ward. In a separate incident, an elderly woman was also appointed as Youth Leader—decisions that sparked outrage among party members, particularly the women and youth wings.
In response to the uproar, the disciplinary committee launched a thorough investigation, citing a recent Supreme Court judgment which reaffirmed that political party matters are internal affairs. The committee noted that its actions are in line with the 2017 PDP Constitution (as amended).
According to the committee, these appointments disregarded the natural order and eligibility criteria, especially when there were capable young women and youths available for the roles.
In its official report, the committee stated:
“The infractions identified are in clear violation of several provisions of the 2017 PDP Constitution (as amended), particularly Sections 58(1)(a)(b)(d)(e)(g)(i).
Based on these findings, we recommend sanctions as provided under Section 59(1)(d) of the Constitution.”
The committee has therefore recommended the suspension of those responsible for the irregular appointments, as well as members instigating crises within the party.
