Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Senator Yusuf Datti Baba Ahmed has declared that he will remain loyal to the Labour Party, distancing himself from recent defections by key political figures.
Baba Ahmed, who was the vice presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, made this known during a press conference at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday.
The former lawmaker for Kaduna North stated clearly that he has no intention of leaving the Labour Party, stressing that he is committed to the platform that brought him into national prominence.
His comments come amid the defection of Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 polls, who recently moved to the African Democratic Congress. Obi’s move followed the formation of a coalition aimed at unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress in 2027.
Reacting to the development, Baba Ahmed said he was not persuaded by the coalition or the ADC, describing its members as disgruntled politicians. According to him, the Labour Party remains the most credible vehicle for national transformation.
He further expressed readiness to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s development ahead of the next election cycle, insisting that his political future remains firmly rooted in the Labour Party.
