The Nigeria Police Force has rescued 12 trafficked children from an unregistered and illegal orphanage operating within a residential apartment on Ikot Ekpene Road, Aba, in Abia State.
Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this in a statement on Monday. According to the release, the children—aged between six months and 14 years—were found living in poor conditions within the facility.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the children were trafficked from various villages in the Arochukwu area,” the statement noted.
The rescued children have been handed over to the Abia State Ministry of Women Affairs for proper care and rehabilitation. Meanwhile, two suspects connected to the illegal home have been arrested and are currently under interrogation. They will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Police Intercept Arms-Laden Vehicle in Kogi
In a separate development, the Kogi State Police Command intercepted a green-colored Sharon vehicle that sped through a security checkpoint without stopping.
Officers gave chase, prompting the driver to abandon the vehicle and flee into a nearby bush. A swift search of the area led to the discovery of a significant cache of arms and ammunition hidden in the vehicle.
Items recovered include five AK-47 rifles, eight AK-47 magazines, 283 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, 62 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, and two rounds of 7.62x59mm ammunition.
Police say preliminary intelligence links the arms to a recent armed robbery at a fuel station in Kabba, Kogi State. Efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspect are ongoing.
