The Nigeria Police Force has announced that it will resume the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy while awaiting the final outcome of the matter currently before the court.
According to the Police, the decision was reached after a thorough assessment of prevailing security challenges and the need to enhance the safety of citizens across the country.
The Force clarified that there has never been any court order stopping the Police from enforcing existing laws regulating the use of tinted glass on vehicles. However, enforcement was earlier suspended as a gesture of goodwill to allow motorists enough time to regularise their documents and complete the required registration process without undue pressure.
Recent security reports have shown an increase in criminal activities involving vehicles fitted with unauthorised tinted glass. Criminals and organised groups have reportedly taken advantage of this situation to hide their identities and carry out crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping and other violent offences.
In response to these developments, the Nigeria Police Force stated that resuming enforcement has become both necessary and urgent as a preventive measure to protect lives and property. The enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy will officially resume on the second of January two thousand and twenty six.
The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, assured Nigerians that the exercise will be conducted professionally, with respect for citizens rights and in line with existing laws. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Force to public safety, the rule of law and continued collaboration with relevant stakeholders to ensure national security.
Motorists who require a Tinted Glass Permit have been advised to apply through the approved channels and ensure their vehicles comply with all legal requirements.
