The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has called on the suspended Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, to provide concrete evidence to back her allegations of sexual harassment and assassination plots against Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja, NYCN National President, Isah Abubakar, challenged Akpoti-Uduaghan to present verifiable proof, especially as she faces defamation charges at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama.
The charges, filed by the Federal Government, stem from a petition submitted by Senate President Akpabio. They accuse Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan of making defamatory statements concerning Akpabio and Bello.
Abubakar emphasized the seriousness of the accusations, warning against making baseless claims without evidence. “It is unacceptable for anyone to make such grave allegations—like sexual harassment—without substantiating them. For many of us, especially men, we understand the weight such accusations carry,” he said.
He continued: “In light of Senator Natasha’s allegation of sexual harassment against Akpabio, we respectfully urge her to provide evidence to support her claims. These are not issues to be taken lightly. We must approach such matters with unwavering commitment to truth and justice.”
He also addressed the alleged assassination plot raised by Akpoti-Uduaghan during a political gathering on April 1, in which she claimed a discussion involving Akpabio and others suggested threats to her life. According to Abubakar, such a serious claim demands a thorough and urgent investigation by relevant security agencies.
“We also urge Senator Natasha to present her evidence to the public,” Abubakar added. “Transparency is crucial—not just for the legal proceedings but also to inform public discourse and ensure that justice is served.”
He warned against making allegations for personal or political gain, stressing the need for accountability and proof: “If I claim someone wants to assassinate me, I should be able to present the source of that information and any reliable evidence backing it. Allegations must not be made carelessly, as they can unjustly tarnish reputations and disrupt the political process.”
