The leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently reform Nigeria’s judiciary before 2027, warning that public trust in judges has significantly eroded.
In a statement signed by his media aide, Oluwatosin Osho, Primate Ayodele expressed concerns over corruption and insincerity within the judiciary, stressing that without reforms, Nigeria’s democracy could face serious challenges.
“The judiciary is meant to be the last hope of the common man, but today, it appears to serve only the rich while the poor bear the consequences. Justice is no longer guaranteed, and that is why undeserving politicians continue to hold power,” he said.
He further warned that if the justice system remains compromised, Nigeria risks instability. “People who deserve justice can’t get it anymore. The judiciary has become a tool for the powerful to manipulate election outcomes and suppress the will of the people,” Ayodele added.
The cleric also predicted possible unrest if judicial reforms are not implemented, highlighting the need for transparency and fairness in the system.
“The judiciary itself is in crisis. Many who are in prison today shouldn’t be there if justice was served. Human rights are being trampled upon, laws are disregarded, and the result is widespread injustice,” he said.
Primate Ayodele cautioned that failure to address these issues could lead to mass protests, urging the government to take immediate action. “If the judiciary remains biased, a major uprising could emerge, shaking the system to its core,” he warned.
