Suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has once again visited the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in a renewed effort to reconcile and resolve the ongoing political crisis in the state.
Sources confirmed that Fubara met Wike at his residence in Abuja on Monday, despite speculation surrounding a viral photograph of the two politicians.
“The photo making the rounds is not recent,” one source clarified. “But I can confirm that Fubara did visit the Minister this Monday.”
The visit is believed to be part of Fubara’s broader move to mend ties with Wike, his predecessor and political mentor, as well as other key political figures in Rivers State.
Tensions began soon after Fubara assumed office in 2023, following a fallout with Wike over political control in the state. The conflict eventually spilled into the State House of Assembly, leading to a split within the legislature.
On March 18, 2025, President Bola Tinubu suspended Fubara for six months and declared a state of emergency in Rivers State. He appointed Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as Sole Administrator, a measure aimed at containing the crisis and preventing threats by Niger Delta militants to sabotage oil facilities.
Since the suspension, Fubara has held meetings with President Tinubu in London and Lagos, and has reached out to Wike in a bid to find common ground. Wike, in turn, extended an olive branch, calling Fubara “his son” and encouraging him to engage with other political stakeholders in the state.
However, nearly three months into his suspension, Fubara is yet to be seen consulting with other major figures in the state’s political landscape.
