Lere Olayinka, media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has described House of Representatives member Ikenga Ugochinyere as a “political Hushpuppi” for his silence on the recent appointment of 23 local government administrators in Rivers State.
Ugochinyere, who represents Ideato North and South Federal Constituency in Imo State, has been vocal in his support for Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara amid the ongoing political conflict with Wike. However, Olayinka criticized the lawmaker for not speaking out against the controversial appointment of the new local government administrators.
The appointments come in the wake of an emergency rule declared by President Bola Tinubu following the political crisis between Wike and Fubara. The elected local government chairmen were suspended as part of the fallout.
In a post on social media platform X, Olayinka questioned Ugochinyere’s silence on the matter.
“We told Fubara that Ugochinyere is a political Hushpuppi, he didn’t listen. Where is Ugochinyere today?” Olayinka wrote.
“Won’t Ugochinyere do a live TV press conference on the appointment of LG Sole Administrators and SIEC members in Rivers State? Or why is @IkengaImo, spokesperson of opposition lawmakers, suddenly silent?”
The comments reflect ongoing tensions between allies of Wike and supporters of Governor Fubara, as the political situation in Rivers State continues to unfold.
