The 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has expressed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, stating that it could push Nigerians to demand a revolution.
Sowore made this known during an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, reacting to Tinubu’s decision announced on Tuesday.
According to him, the crisis in Rivers State could serve as a wake-up call for Nigerians to rise against bad governance.
“To be clear, I am not here to defend godfather and son. I don’t care about them. I hope they destroy themselves,” he said.
“I am happy because maybe this will force Nigerians across the country to wake up. They have been too complicit and docile due to cowardice.”
He further stated, “It will push Nigerians to complete the 30-day challenge and move to a stage of full-scale revolt. That is not me endorsing anarchy, but rather advocating for justice.”
Recall that on Tuesday, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State and suspended all democratically elected authorities, a move that has sparked widespread condemnation among Nigerians.
