Seven workers, including three expatriates, sustained varying degrees of injuries following an explosion at Quantum Steels Nigeria Limited, located at KM 16, Ikorodu-Sagamu Road, Ogijo, Ogun State.
The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on Sunday when one of the factory’s machines exploded. The victims have been identified as Daniel Bala (28), Mutiu Olajide (39), Godwin Solomon (27), Maduabuchi Onwe (27), Ajun Kumar (37), Chandan Kumar (50), and Rakash Kumar (30).
Confirming the incident on Thursday, Omolola Odutola, the Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Police Command, said the report was received at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday from Joseph Adewale, a staff member of the company.
“All seven injured persons are currently receiving treatment at Rolayo Hospital, Ikorodu, Lagos State, and are responding well,” Odutola stated.
She further revealed that the police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the explosion and ensure compliance with industrial safety regulations.
“Upon receiving the report, detectives visited the scene, conducted an initial assessment, interviewed relevant individuals, and documented evidence, including photographs,” she added.
Meanwhile, the police have urged companies and industries to prioritize workplace safety and strictly adhere to safety protocols to prevent similar incidents.
