Global pop sensation Shakira has announced the official song for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, making a return to football’s grandest stage years after the massive success of her hit anthem, Waka Waka (This Time for Africa).
The 49-year-old singer on Thursday previewed the upcoming track, titled Dai Dai, in a video shared on Instagram from the famous Maracanã Stadium. The song, set for release on May 14, also features Nigerian Grammy-winning star Burna Boy.
The announcement has sparked excitement among football and music fans worldwide, considering Shakira’s strong history with the World Cup. Her 2010 anthem became one of the most iconic football songs ever, while she also delivered La La La (Brazil 2014) during the 2014 tournament in Brazil.
She further strengthened her connection to the sport by performing Hips Don’t Lie at the closing ceremony of the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be co-hosted by United States, Mexico, and Canada. It will also be the first World Cup edition to feature 48 teams, with the tournament scheduled to take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026.
Shakira’s home nation, Colombia, is expected to participate in the tournament, making her involvement even more meaningful.
