Vice President Kashim Shettima and the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, have arrived in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, for the groundbreaking ceremony of a new Export Processing Economic Zone (EPEZ).
Their arrival was confirmed by Governor Bassey Otu, who returned to the state on Wednesday following a three-week vacation abroad. He was warmly received at the Margaret Ekpo International Airport by an enthusiastic crowd of supporters.
The EPEZ is a collaborative initiative between the Cross River State Government and the AfDB, designed to stimulate economic growth, attract investment, and create jobs. The new zone will complement the existing federally-owned Export Processing Zone in Calabar.
Describing the EPEZ as a “transformative project,” Governor Otu expressed optimism about the state’s economic future. “A new era of economic revival has begun,” he said. “The sky is the limit for Cross River.”
The governor also unveiled plans for a Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone, citing the state’s strategic location as a major evacuation corridor for goods and services. “We are finally stepping into our rightful place in Nigeria’s economic structure,” he added.
