Simon Ekpa, the self-proclaimed Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE), has filed a lawsuit against former ally Ngozi Orabueze at the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, Washington.
The suit, filed by U.S.-based attorney Arman Dabiri, accuses Orabueze of orchestrating a hostile takeover of the BRGIE and misappropriating its database of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) members. Ekpa is seeking punitive damages, attorney’s fees, and reimbursement for legal costs and expenses.
According to Peoples Gazette, the legal action follows Ekpa’s claims that Orabueze created a parallel faction of BRGIE and unlawfully seized its digital assets and membership data.
In the court filings, Dabiri, acting on behalf of BRGIE and Ekpa, listed Orabueze as the lead defendant. Several others were named as co-defendants, including Ada Ezeh, Diana Emeh Solomon Nkwocha, Ugbonna Christian Olejemah, Uchenna Objijiaku, and Ijeoma Eze.
The case reportedly stems from events that began in December 2024, when internal tensions within BRGIE escalated.
Ekpa, who is currently in pre-trial detention in Finland on charges of “public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent,” alleges that Orabueze’s actions amount to fraud and the illegal appropriation of organizational property.
The lawsuit seeks to hold the defendants accountable for what Ekpa describes as a deliberate attempt to undermine and destabilize the BRGIE.
