Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have killed one person and abducted another in the Asa 2 area of Otukpo town, Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The deceased, identified as Mr. Onche Akatu, was reportedly shot at his residence, while another victim, Mr. Ocheche, was abducted while returning home after encountering the assailants.
The incident occurred around 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Reports indicate that the attack has heightened fear among residents, prompting many to flee the area due to the increasing cases of violent crimes.
A local source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “Mr. Onche Akatu was shot by suspected kidnappers at about 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries early Tuesday morning. The attackers also kidnapped a man nearby and took him to an unknown location.”
Efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, CSP Catherine Anene, for comments were unsuccessful, as calls to her mobile phone went unanswered at the time of this report.
