Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has expressed support for Lagos-based National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member Ushie Uguamaye, popularly known as Raye, following the controversy surrounding her viral video criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Raye recently sparked nationwide debate after a video surfaced online in which she condemned the worsening economic situation in Nigeria, describing President Tinubu as a “terrible leader” unfit to govern. In response, NYSC officials reportedly summoned her for questioning, a move that has drawn significant public outcry.
Weighing in on the issue, Ezekwesili, in a post on her official X handle, argued that Raye’s comment was a reflection of widespread frustration among Nigerians struggling under economic hardship.
According to Ezekwesili, the corps member effectively conveyed her message to the president, emphasizing that holding public leaders accountable is both a constitutional right and a civic duty.
“After presenting her evidence, she declared to @officialABAT: ‘You are such a terrible President.’ That is admirably bold, I must say,” Ezekwesili wrote.
“Truly and remarkably bold. To demand accountability from public leaders is both a constitutional right and duty of every citizen. Raye has just taught all Nigerians ‘Democracy 101.’ We all better learn.”
