While it is possible for Nigerians to forgive MUHAMMADU, it is impossible to forgive BUHARI!!!
This is because the name MUHAMMADU BUHARI is like a split personality, or a coin with two sides, in which MUHAMMADU is the good personality, the myth of a sanctimonious person of UNWAVERING integrity. Whereas the other part of his name, BUHARI conjures up the memory of a hypocritical personality that came to power with the promise to wage an unrelenting ANTI-CORRUPTION WAR, only for him to superintend over the most mindless looting and re-looting of public funds by key officials of his government and administration.
*MUHAMMADU BUHARI is like an oxymoron.*
An oxymoron is defined as: “a figure of speech in which apparently contradictory terms appear in conjunction (e.g. faith unfaithful kept him falsely true ).”
Okoi Obono-Obla is a lawyer and former Special Assistant on Prosecution to the late President Muhammadu Buhari.
His period of service is a clear demonstration of how the name MUHAMMADU BUHARI has come to represent an oxymoron.
A contradiction wherein Muhammadu represents UNWAVERING integrity whereas BUHARI is associated with acquiescence, passive and even complicity while key officials of his government looted public funds to the extent that in the year 2019, Nigeria has acquired the status of the POVERTY CAPITAL OF THE WORLD.
I worked with Okoi Obono-Obla for a period and I saw and heard first-hand how the name MUHAMMADU BUHARI is a contradiction.
Okoi Obono-Obla was a devout devotee of MUHAMMADU BUHARI and consistently associated with MUHAMMADU BUHARI from their days in the CPC-Congress for Progressive Change from the year 2009 when it was founded until the merger and in 2015 when the late President Muhammadu Buhari won the election.
Based on the reputation of Muhammadu as an incorruptible, personality of Integrity, who campaigned on the promise of executing an ANTI-CORRUPTION WAR, Okoi Obono-Obla sought for and was appointed as the Special Assistant on Prosecution to the President Muhammadu.
He was later appointed as the Chairman of the Special Presidential Panel for Recovery of Public Properties.
In other words, Okoi Obono-Obla was like the chief executioner and prosecutor of the anti-corruption war based on the unwavering integrity of the Muhammadu personality.
However, no sooner had Okoi Obono-Obla commenced the unrelenting prosecution of the anti-corruption war against corrupt officials of the government of the late PMB, that he witnessed a contradiction in the name MUHAMMADU BUHARI.
According to Okoi Obono-Obla, certain key Ministers and other officials of the government of PMB were constituting undue interference with his investigations and prosecution.
According to Okoi Obono-Obla, several times the former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) would give him marching orders to stop investigation or prosecution of a certain matter involving corrupt public officials. The said former AGF would then order him, Okoi Obono-Obla to hand over the case files.
It did not stop at that. According to Okoi Obono-Obla, the former AGF went as far as placing him on suspension several times.
It was at this point that Okoi Obono-Obla witnessed first-hand the oxymoron in the name MUHAMMADU BUHARI.
According to Okoi Obono-Obla, he sought private audience with the late Muhammadu Buhari and complained of how his prosecution of the anti-corruption war was putting his life and career at great risks by the former AGF and other top officials of the government of PMB.
According to Okoi Obono-Obla, the now late PMB assured him not to worry that he has the full 100% backing and support of PMB and that no official can stop or hurt Obla.
However, subsequent events showed that Buhari never kept this promise.
Okoi Obono-Obla found himself harassed, hunted, humiliated and eventually removed from office and even prosecuted by the AGF and other officials of the same government of Buhari and contrary to his previous promises (made in his capacity as Muhammadu), BUHARI did not lift a finger to protect Okoi Obono-Obla!!!
