President Bola Tinubu has ordered all ministers to provide an immediate report on their performance and challenges, emphasizing transparency and accountability in governance.
According to Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, the ministerial briefings will commence immediately, allowing Nigerians to be informed about the government’s achievements over the past year. The briefings will also serve as a platform for public engagement, giving citizens an opportunity to ask questions.
Instead of hosting grand ceremonies for its second anniversary, the Tinubu administration will mark the occasion with sectoral briefings from ministers to highlight progress in various sectors.
The briefings will also serve as an evaluation of ministers’ performance, as they had signed a performance bond during a cabinet retreat in November 2024. This bond holds them accountable for demonstrating innovation, diligence, commitment, and results-driven leadership.
This directive comes five months after President Tinubu reshuffled his 45-member cabinet, in which seven new ministers were appointed, five were removed, and 10 were reassigned to new portfolios.
The reshuffle was widely seen as an effort to revitalize the administration’s economic reforms, which have faced challenges such as rising inflation and a cost-of-living crisis.
By demanding an account of their stewardship, President Tinubu aims to reinforce accountability and ensure ministers are delivering on their mandates.
