President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken a swipe at opposition parties, particularly the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying he finds their internal crises and confusion amusing.
Speaking on Thursday during his Democracy Day address at the National Assembly, Tinubu dismissed claims that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is attempting to establish a one-party system in Nigeria.
“To those who claim the APC is pushing for a one-party state, I offer you a personal assurance — I have never interfered with the registration of any political party with INEC,” he stated.
Tinubu criticized the panic among opposition parties, advising them to focus on resolving their internal challenges rather than making baseless accusations.
“Political parties that are worried about members defecting should examine their internal structures instead of imagining threats that do not exist,” he said. “As for me, I won’t help you fix your house. In fact, it is a pleasure to see you in such disarray.”
The president also emphasized the importance of political diversity in a thriving democracy.
“We must welcome the presence of multiple political parties just as we embrace the diversity of our people. Our goal should never be to eliminate competition but to make it beneficial for national progress through cooperation across party lines,” he concluded.
