The Kano State Police Command has issued a stern warning following the circulation of a viral video showing a group of youths vandalizing campaign billboards of President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement released on Friday, the police described the act as unpatriotic, criminal, and a threat to public order. The video, widely shared on social media, captures unidentified individuals tearing down the president’s campaign posters in what the authorities labeled as destruction of public property.
“The Kano State Police Command is disturbed by a viral video showing some unpatriotic individuals engaging in vandalism and destruction of public property on the roads. This act is not only disrespectful but also criminal,” the statement read.
The Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Hussaini Abdullahi, who spoke on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, said investigations have commenced, and those responsible are being profiled.
“We are not taking this lightly. Whoever is found culpable will face the full wrath of the law,” he warned.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, urged residents to remain law-abiding and shun any actions that could threaten the peace of the state.
“Kano has enjoyed relative peace, and we will do everything within our power to sustain it. We call on residents to resist any form of provocation and avoid activities that could lead to unrest,” he said.
The Command also appealed to the public to support ongoing investigations by providing useful information, assuring that all reports would be handled with utmost confidentiality.
