A violent clash between Hausa and Fulani youths in Agufa village, Miga Local Government Area of Jigawa State, has left two people dead and several others injured.
The incident, which occurred on Monday, February 17, 2025, reportedly began as a dispute over alleged acts of mischief attributed to some Fulani youths but quickly escalated into a full-blown confrontation. Both groups engaged in a battle using bows and arrows before security forces intervened to restore order.
Authorities confirmed that two Fulani individuals were found dead with gunshot wounds, while another sustained gunshot injuries. Additionally, four members of the Hausa community were injured and rushed to Jahun General Hospital for treatment.
In response, the police have deployed tactical teams to the area to prevent further violence. Efforts are also underway to engage community leaders and stakeholders in dialogue aimed at fostering peace and preventing future clashes.
This is not the first time such tensions have erupted in Jigawa State. Reports indicate that previous communal conflicts between Hausa and Fulani groups, including an ethnic crisis in Gululu village spanning Jahun and Miga local government areas, resulted in 11 deaths and the destruction of 31 houses.
The Jigawa State Police Command has urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue. Authorities have also pledged to address the root causes of the conflict and work towards a lasting solution to prevent further bloodshed.
