A UK-based Nigerian woman, Dr. Mkpouto Pius, has pledged to support Miss Goddy Mbakwe, an expelled student from Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), by securing her an international scholarship.
Dr. Pius made this public following the emergence of a new video that offered a different perspective on the incident involving Mbakwe and a lecturer. She stated that after personally speaking with the student, she became convinced that the university was trying to conceal a deeper issue.
In a Facebook post, Dr. Pius alleged that the lecturer had harassed Mbakwe and that UNIZIK was attempting to cover up the incident.
“UNIZIK did the right thing by expelling her, but now they are desperately trying to save face because they know the lecturer harassed that girl. That’s why they’ve been calling her parents, asking her to apologize publicly so they can rescind the expulsion,” she wrote.
She further revealed that Mbakwe was doing well and that her family had accepted her offer of an overseas scholarship.
“The girl is not breaking down or dying; she’s doing just fine. When I offered to help her secure a scholarship abroad, she consulted her parents, and they quickly agreed.”
The incident has sparked widespread debate on social media, with netizens divided over the university’s decision and the role of both the lecturer and the student.
@zucchy_nedu: “Even if the school doesn’t expel her, she will leave on her own. She wouldn’t be able to cope in that environment.
@fabulously_owned: “Although she may deserve some form of discipline, expulsion is too extreme. The professor should go ahead and press charges”.
@xx.box.py: “The girl may have bad manners, but the lecturer tapping her shoulder could be seen as intrusive. A simple excuse me would have been better.”
@chidinma_lyd: “JAMB should ensure she never gets admission into any Nigerian university.”
@ameena_selense: “Those supporting her can contribute money for her to study abroad.”
@iamchrisbassey: “If they don’t use one Gen Z as an example, others won’t learn. A child who respects their parents at home will respect elders outside”.
@lilvoke_voke: “Everything is always about sexual harassment so the man wanted to harass her in public, rights?”
@graciefunmike: “Now she can relax at home and do her TikTok without interruptions. Maybe she should enroll in a Shaolin temple or wrestling school.”
@sucree_jenny: “Encouraging bad behavior just because you live abroad doesn’t mean you have sense”.
@_samkoko: “Not judging anyone, but those saying he was holding her phone and not her dress, what’s really going on? The man is clearly holding her dress, and she even said, “Leave my cloth.”
The debate continues as more people weigh in on the issue, with many awaiting further responses from UNIZIK and the lecturer involved.
