Tension has gripped the World Bank area of Owerri, Imo State, following the shocking shooting of a schoolboy by a homeowner. The boy had reportedly entered the man’s compound to retrieve a football when he was shot.
The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, is currently fighting for his life at Imo Specialists Hospital, Umuguma, in Owerri West Local Government Area.
Eyewitnesses say the incident occurred while the boy and his friends were playing football in the neighborhood. After the ball accidentally landed in the suspect’s compound, the boy went in to retrieve it. However, instead of resolving the situation peacefully, the homeowner allegedly opened fire on him.
The shooting has sparked outrage among residents, with angry youths staging protests, chanting slogans, and demanding swift justice for the injured boy, who is said to be in critical condition.
The atmosphere remains tense as fears of reprisal attacks grow. Security operatives have been deployed to restore calm and prevent further violence.
