Former presidential spokesperson and political commentator, Reno Omokri, has shed light on why former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, was not appointed as a minister by President Bola Tinubu.
In a widely circulated post titled On Nasir El-Rufai’s Allegations Against President Tinubu and NSA Ribadu on Arise TV Today,” Omokri refuted El-Rufai’s claims that Tinubu and National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu were responsible for his failed ministerial nomination.
Omokri stated that while Tinubu had nominated El-Rufai for a ministerial position and forwarded his name to the National Assembly for confirmation, the former governor failed security clearance checks conducted by both national and international intelligence agencies.
“During the Senate confirmation process, the National Assembly requested security clearance from security and intelligence agencies, and it was discovered that Nasir El-Rufai failed woefully. As a result, he could not be cleared by the Senate,” Omokri explained.
He noted that El-Rufai was not the only nominee rejected for failing security checks, citing Danladi Sani from Taraba State and Stella Okotete from Delta State as others who were similarly denied clearance.
“None of the others have blamed President Tinubu or the NSA. None. Except El-Rufai,” Omokri remarked.
Following his rejection, El-Rufai reportedly withdrew from consideration and recommended his former commissioner for local government, Jafaru Sani, as his replacement.
Omokri maintained that El-Rufai had only himself to blame for his ministerial rejection, not the President or the NSA.
