Jerry Omotsegunwa, the Special Assistant on Electronic Media to suspended Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara, has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and Fubara to reveal the real cause of their political conflict.
Omotsegunwa stated that neither Wike nor Fubara had provided a clear explanation for the crisis that has engulfed the state.
“The FCT minister has not disclosed what triggered the crisis, and the governor, too, has not offered any clarity,” he said in a statement. He also noted that Fubara remains in the dark about why Wike turned against him.
The prolonged political feud between the two leaders led President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State on March 18, 2025. Along with the emergency rule, Tinubu suspended Fubara and members of the State House of Assembly.
Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, weighed in on the crisis, attributing it to financial disputes. In an interview with DW, Amaechi also criticized Tinubu’s decision to impose emergency rule, describing it as unconstitutional.
However, Omotsegunwa dismissed Amaechi’s claim as a personal opinion, emphasizing that the actual cause of the crisis remains unclear.
“As it stands, I won’t dispute Amaechi’s stance, but he is entitled to his own opinion,” he said.
“This crisis has persisted for nearly two years, yet no one has explicitly stated the real issue. When there were talks of impeaching the governor, he asked, ‘What is my offence?’ The FCT minister responded that the governor was trying to dismantle his political structure. Despite these claims, we still don’t have a definitive explanation.
“So, while I won’t say Amaechi is lying, I maintain that his view is simply his personal opinion,” Omotsegunwa concluded.
