Suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has applauded the resilience, dedication, and professionalism of the state’s workforce, particularly in the face of ongoing political disruptions and threats to democratic governance.
In a Workers’ Day 2025 message released through his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara described Rivers workers as “the backbone of the state’s development and a beacon of hope for a better future.”
Reflecting on this year’s Workers’ Day theme, “Ensuring Safety and Health at Work in a Changing Climate,” the governor emphasized the growing urgency to safeguard workers amid mounting environmental and socio-political challenges. He noted that occupational safety and worker well-being are essential pillars of sustainable development.
Fubara also commended the Federal Government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for advancing labour reforms and implementing climate-conscious policies that promote a safer, healthier work environment nationwide.
Despite the prevailing political instability in Rivers State, Fubara lauded the state’s workers for their unwavering patriotism, integrity, and commitment to duty. He stressed that their sacrifices are crucial to maintaining the state’s stability and driving progress.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare, the governor urged employers in both public and private sectors to uphold labour laws and protect the rights and dignity of all employees. He also called for continuous improvements in working conditions, guided by both legal standards and moral responsibility.
In his closing remarks, Fubara encouraged Rivers people to remain hopeful and united, assuring them that “the forces of justice, peace, and progress will prevail in the end.”
