Ahead of the 2027 general elections, key stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State have reconciled their differences and pledged to work together to deliver President Bola Tinubu’s re-election and wrestle power from Governor Alex Otti of the Labour Party.
The party leaders made this commitment during a high-level reconciliation meeting held at the Abuja residence of former Abia State Governor, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, on Friday.
Among those present were APC National Welfare Secretary, Donatus Nwankpa; Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha; former Commissioner for Finance, Obinna Oriaku; as well as prominent party figures including Ndukwe Adindu, Sam Ikiri, Mike Nwabara, Anyim Nyerere, Nze Esiaga, Chidi Maduekwe, Ndukwe Maxwell, Nnanna Kalu, and Emeka Atuma.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Senator Kalu emphasized the need for Abia to align politically with the federal government.
“We have a President who has completed his first term and is heading into a second. Abia cannot afford to be left out or speaking in a different direction. The consensus from the South East is to support President Tinubu in 2027 — mark my words, the zone will do very well,” he stated.
APC National Welfare Secretary, Donatus Nwankpa, described the gathering as a strategic move to reposition the party and solidify its recent gains in the state.
“This meeting was convened to unite our leaders, bury personal grievances, and work as one toward a common goal. Our loyalty to the party and its leadership is unwavering. Come 2027, our resolve to take over the Abia State Government House is absolute,” Nwankpa said.
He further declared the party’s full endorsement of President Tinubu’s re-election bid, citing the need to consolidate on his administration’s ongoing reforms.
“We are not begging for 25 percent — we are confident that APC will emerge first in Abia in the 2027 elections. We commend President Tinubu’s commitment to repositioning Nigeria and assure him of our total support,” he added.
