The Labour Party (LP), under the leadership of Julius Abure, has asserted that it would have performed better in managing Nigeria’s affairs than the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) over the past two years.
Speaking in Abuja on Wednesday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, expressed concern over the prevailing economic hardship, insecurity, and declining living standards across the country.
According to Ifoh, the Labour Party had previously warned about the looming economic downturn, rising poverty levels, and worsening inflation—issues that have now become the reality for millions of Nigerians.
“Let Nigerians honestly ask themselves: are their lives better today than they were two years ago?” Ifoh questioned. “What’s the cost of a bag of rice today compared to back then? Are our roads and communities safer? Has the average citizen’s purchasing power improved?”
Ifoh added that a Labour Party administration would have managed the economy more efficiently and prioritized the welfare of Nigerians.
“Today, we’re seeing the Naira, which once exchanged at N167 to the dollar, now trading at over N1,600. Petrol has jumped from N87 per litre to over N1,000, and inflation, which hovered around 40 percent, has now exceeded 42 percent,” he said.
The party reiterated its commitment to offering a credible alternative and said it remains ready to serve Nigerians with competence and integrity.
