Saudi Arabia has temporarily suspended the issuance of blockwork visa quotas to Nigeria and 13 other countries, including several African and Asian nations.
According to the Kingdom’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, the affected African countries are Nigeria, Egypt, Algeria, Sudan, Ethiopia, Tunisia, and Morocco. The suspension also applies to Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Yemen, India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.
The blockwork visa allows Saudi employers to recruit a predetermined number of foreign workers. Once approved, employers can apply for work visas for specific candidates under the allocated quota.
This policy shift will impact both new and pending applications for temporary work visas. The suspension is expected to remain in place until the end of June 2025, aligning with the conclusion of the Hajj season.
While the Ministry has not provided an official reason for the decision, the move coincides with Saudi Arabia’s ongoing Saudization efforts. These initiatives aim to increase employment of Saudi nationals across various sectors, including tourism, with new national employment quotas set to take effect between 2026 and 2028.
Under the current restrictions, no new block visa quotas will be issued for employers intending to hire workers from the affected African nations. Additionally, delays are expected in processing previously approved quotas.
