The Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, has issued a two-week ultimatum to Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to eradicate robbery and related crimes within Abuja’s city centre.
Sanusi gave the directive during a meeting with 17 DPOs under the Metro Area Command at the weekend. He said the order was part of a broader review of the prevailing security situation and efforts to strengthen operational strategies against emerging threats.
The Commissioner expressed concern over the rising incidents of traffic robbery, vehicle snatching, “one-chance” robbery, and motorists driving against traffic (one-way). He also highlighted challenges posed by commercial motorcyclists operating on major roads, vandalism of public and private property, illegal parking on highways, and persistent traffic congestion.
“End these crimes within two weeks or face sanctions,” Sanusi warned the DPOs.
While directing focused attention on the city centre, the police chief said he would personally oversee security operations in the Abuja suburbs. He tasked the Area Commander, Metro, with providing effective supervision and ensuring full compliance with the directives, stressing that negligence would not be tolerated.
Sanusi, however, called on residents to support police efforts by providing timely and credible intelligence to the nearest police divisions.
