Confusion and shock have gripped residents of Oko-Irese in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State following the abduction of a prominent Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) chieftain, Comrade Bayo Fabiyi, along with his driver and another associate.
The trio were ambushed by armed terrorists while on a mission to deliver ransom and other items intended for the release of a previously kidnapped victim in the community. Sources said the team was transporting approximately ₦30 million in cash, five motorcycles, and three bags of rice when they were waylaid.
According to accounts from those familiar with the incident, the original victim had reportedly already been killed by his captors before the ransom team arrived, a critical detail unknown to Fabiyi and his companions at the time. The abductors allegedly lured the group into a forested area along the Kwara-Kogi border route before seizing them at gunpoint.
It was further gathered that Comrade Fabiyi had received a spiritual warning advising him against embarking on the journey, but he reportedly ignored the caution. The incident was not immediately reported to security agencies.
When contacted, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, confirmed that the command had not received any formal report of the abduction involving an OPC member as at the time of inquiry. He assured that police would commence a full investigation once a formal complaint is lodged.
