Legal counsel to Nigerian singer, Simi, has revealed that she and her team reviewed more than 5,000 tweets allegedly targeted at trolling and harassing the music star online.
The lawyer and entertainment executive, Oyinkansola Fawehinmi, popularly known as Foza, made the disclosure during an appearance on the JayOnairLive show, where she criticised the sustained cyberbullying directed at Simi and her husband, Adekunle Gold.
Foza questioned why the singer was subjected to coordinated online attacks, especially during her pregnancy, stressing that the intention appeared to be to emotionally break her down.
According to her, “We went through over 5,000 tweets of sustained harassment. The aim was to make Simi become a shadow of herself.”
She added that the situation was particularly concerning because Simi was expecting a child at the time, noting that no family would tolerate such treatment towards a pregnant woman.
Foza also explained the difference between defamation and harassment, stating that repeated online attacks and threats go beyond isolated statements and amount to criminal harassment.
She noted that cyberbullying can have serious real-life consequences for celebrities, including pressure from brands and business partners seeking explanations over online controversies.
Expressing concern over the growing trend of online harassment in Nigeria’s entertainment industry, Foza warned that anonymous trolls on social media platforms, especially X, often pose significant emotional and reputational threats to public figures.
